The long awaited trailer for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus has been released by 20th Century Fox. Speculation and mystery has surrounded this sci-fi project with ties to the Alien series for the better part of two years, now it’s all in plain sight – and what an impressive trailer, albeit teaser it is.
From the striking production design to the hauntingly surreal look, Ridley Scott and his team have created a realm that promises nail baiting terror and thrills. Offering only glimpses of the action similar to the style of the original trailer for Alien, it also reveals the film’s title in the same foreboding way. If there was any doubt exactly how Prometheus contains strands of Alien DNA, fans will recognize what appears to be the spaceship belonging to the Space Jockey race, discovered by the crew of the Nostromo in the 1979 original.
Between the chilling sounds and quick cuts to the violent imagery, the mysterious events and the astronauts exploring the planetary terrain – the trailer evokes the same nail biting suspense of Ridley Scott’s defining sci-fi / horror masterpiece. There’s also the psychological element which offers a tale of a group of humans and an android that are stranded on a distant world and soon descend into fear and madness. While we can look forward to a thrilling sci-fi thriller/horror, the legendary filmmaker has also emphasized that Prometheus with deal with philosophical themes, touching upon concepts of humanity’s evolution, and where man may be heading.
Filmed using the digital 3D format, the images look both vibrant and stunningly detailed. Between the thematic elements and the rich production design, fans of the horror sci-fi wil no doubt be enthralled by this filmmakers return to the genre ‘ he helped define’.
The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce.
Prometheus opens in (2D and 3D) on June 8th, 2012.
