Russell Crowe on MAN OF STEEL Set

Not all people are keen on set photos that leak before a film’s release, but here’s an image worth glimpsing of Russell Crowe in costume as Jor-El in MAN OF STEEL. Some people might not believe you when you say that Russell Crowe is in the next Superman flick, well this snap proves it and reveals the look that costume designers are bringing to the updating of this classic character.

If you’ve seen the 70’s flick then you’d remember Marlon Brando wearing a specially designed suit which glowed and Krypton was a high-tech planet with super cool crystalline structures. This new outfit hints at the many other variations we can expect to see in Zack Snyder‘s film, from the technology of the Kryptonian civilization to the look of the planet.

Crowe’s outfit also bears some similarities to the one that Henry Cavill‘s wears as Superman – featuring intergalactic textures and mouldings, though Crowe’s outfit conveys Jor-El’s regal status and his contributions to science – after all he builds the only spaceship that escapes the doomed planet. His wife was originally set to be played by Julia Ormond, though in late September the part was recast and Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) landed the role of Lara Lor-Van aka Superman’s Kryptonian mother.
