The first trailer has been released for Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming family flick, Hugo. So how does it stack up you’re thinking? – check out the new trailer and see what you think, though perhaps Scorsese produces his best work when he’s getting wise guys to pop eyes in vices. This has a serious case of the cutes, with some the characters seeming a little distorted – particularly Sacha Baron Cohen‘s.
That said the imagery is top notch and the design of the film looks great – it also stars the incredibly talented Chloe Mortez as the “eccentric” girl Isabelle, whose father just happens to be the fantastical French filmmaker, Georges Méliès played by Ben Kingsley. This turn of the century flick was adapted from the award winning illustrated book by Brian Selznick, and has a very endearing story that coupled with Scorsese’s storytelling skills, could be worth checking out despite the cheesy trailer.
The film also stars Asa Butterfield as the titular character, and Jude Law in a smaller role as his father. Keep in mind that it’s just a teaser and a full length trailer will probably add a new dimension – hopefully it won’t be too long before Scorsese returns to the Gangster genre and make the eagerly awaited ‘The Irishman‘ that’s set to star DeNiro, Pesci and Pacino.
Here’s the synopsis:
‘Hugo’ tells the story of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. With the help of an eccentric girl, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart shaped lock, seemingly without a key. Based on Brian Selznick’s award winning and imaginative New York Times bestseller, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” this magical tale is Scorsese’s first film shot in 3D.
Hugo opens in 2D and 3D, November 23rd, 2011.
