Robert Downey Jr is back as super sleuth Sherlock Holmes for what looks to be an explosive sequel to the surprise hit of 2009. British filmaker Guy Ritchie is perfectly suited to bringing Old England to life and this will likely be an ongoing franchise which has incredibly produced a sequel within 2 years, some follow-ups languish for ever.
The trailer shows it’s going for some laughs this time round with Holmes stuck in drag for the most part, and Jude Law returns as confidant and cohort Dr Watson, though he seems reluctant to return to crime fighting after the injuries sustained at the end of the first flick. We also get to see Swedish sensation Noomi Rapace in her first big screen English speaking flick, her screen presence shows why Sir Ridley nabbed the actress for his Alien themed flick ‘Prometheus’.
This time they’re going up against arch-nemesis and criminal genius Moriarty played by Mad Mens’ Jared Harris, but they’ll probably get a helping hand from Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes played by Stephen Fry, who is said to be ‘stranger and perhaps even more brilliant,’ than Sherlock.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th.
