After her break out hit Lost in Translation, she established herself as a director not concerned with big budget action or effects, but with the focus firmly on story and well crafted characters which are true to their world. Her skills allow her to retain the viewers attention throughout seemingly simplistic stories which soon reveal themselves to have much greater depth.
Her new film Somewhere is a story that resonates with her personally, showing the painful and disillusioned lives of people trapped in the glamor and repetitiveness of showbiz.
