Since the release of the official image of Andrew Garfield wearing the new Spider-man outfit, new location snaps have found their way online which show the action taking place in downtown L.A where a stunt double is doing most of the physical action.
The snaps and spectator vision say volumes about the style of movie that director Marc Webb is aiming for in his version. It could be a more down to earth Spider-man who just happens to have some extraordinary wall climbing skills as these images show a crane with the stunt double swinging onto a truck and saving the day in a heroic feat. In the Sam Raimi flicks, Spidey’s more complex stunts were accomplished via 3d animation with digital streets and a CG Spider-man. These new pics make us wonder if the wall crawling will be achieved in a similar way; with advanced wire work and less CG. While 3d animation will undoubtedly be used for bigger action scenes, it’s interesting to see a more old school approach to the action.
In recent news the speculation surrounding the appearance of artificial web shooters on Spider-man’s wrist was confirmed by co-star Emma Stone which tells us why Spidey has to run around so much. As far as the story goes the rumors are saying that news paper editor J. Jonah Jameson will apparently not feature in this film possibly due to his character having too much of a comedic tone and at this point no actor has been confirmed in that role.
Here’s some spectator vision of the action being shot:
The Sam Raimi flicks were apparently canned when the director was unable to deliver the film by a certain date and this put an end to the Tobey Maguire franchise with Sony moving on with the reboot. The star was at the recent Sundance film festival and showed that he’s a true champ by not holding a grudge and conveyed his excitement to see how the film turns out and his thoughts about the new suit.
Here’s the snaps from the set:
