Fans of the JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek are no doubt looking forward to the next installment with opens in just over two months. The new trailer offers some breathtaking new footage, some of which was seen in the nine-minute IMAX preview released in December, but this time the emphasis is on the humor that worked so well in the first.
The previous trailers were focused on the villainous fugitive known as “John Harrison” who seeks to bring down the entire Federation. There’s still plenty of speculation as to whether his character has a dual role, similar to Marion Cotillard in the last Batman flick who played Wayne Enterprises board member Miranda Tate, only to be revealed as the Talia Al Ghul character – finally ending the internet rumors.
In the latest issue of Total Film, director Abrams and actor Benedict Cumberbatch were interviewed about the upcoming sci-fi flick. Abrams talked about the differences of this new antagonist, compared to Eric Bana‘s Nero in the 2009 original:
[Nero] was just a raging, vengeful lunatic. All he wanted to do was destroy Vulcan, Earth and the Federation…He had backstory but was kind of irrational. The beauty of Benedict’s [John Harrison] is that he’s completely rational. He’s someone that you can have conversations with. You couldn’t sit down and talk to Nero – he’d bite your head off!
Cumberbatch’s had this to say about the personality traits and physical characteristics of his character Harrison:
I did a lot of close combat training. He’s a kick-ass warrior, as masterful with his hands and body as he is with weapons…You will have a great discovery during this film, which I think is great…[My costumes] look great. Some of them were (no pun intended) cumbersome and heavy, but some were very snug; you can almost see what religion I am…

The new trailer only hastens the anticipation and fortifies one confidence that this will be one heck of an exciting, action-adventure movie.
