A new trailer for Red Lights is here starring the talented Robert De Niro as a powerful blind physic who’s something of a bad-ass. Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy co-star as two paranormal investigators who have successfully debunked phony mystics – however it’s Simon Silver (Robert De Niro) who has for years escaped their deductive reasoning.
When Silver comes comes out of retirement, Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy) sees a chance to expose the world’s biggest fraud. He recruits his star pupil (Elizabeth Olsen) to help in his attempts, despite Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) warning them not to pursue this course of action fearing reprisal from the powerful physic.
The film is directed by Rodrigo Cortes, and for the most part Red Lights has been described as a suspenseful, and intense thriller – the performances are meant to be stellar all round – Sigourney Weaver is described as giving her strongest performance since Alien, and DeNiro does something particularly special rather than his usual ‘walk-through’ parts.
The film premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, and was well received except for it’s ending which divided some audiences – the director has apparently tried to out do M. Night Shyamalan with a surprise twist that does not ring true. It’s possible that since the initial screening in January, re-shoots or a re-cut may have fixed things.
