Liam Neeson is back in bad-ass mode in the first international trailer for Taken 2. The story sees retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Neeson) spending some family time with his ex-wife (Famke Janssen) and daughter (Maggie Grace) overseas in Istanbul. However it’s not long before their family getaway is interrupted, it turns out that the father of one of the bad guys (Rade Sherbedgia) – who Mills despatched in the first flick, wants revenge for his son and soon the Mills vacation turns into another nightmare – which means plenty of action and super cool fights. This time around it’s Mills’ wife who gets taken, allowing Neeson to begin snapping necks and pummeling bad guys.
The original Taken produced by film-maker Luc Besson was a mega-hit hit back in 2008, and revitalised Liam Neeson’s career showing off an action persona fans had never seen. Olivier Megaton (Colombiana) takes over directing duties from Pierre Morel, and the script is by the original writers Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, who have developed a successful formula for pairing a lively pace with break neck action – and creating a Europe-set action/thriller where it’s never a good place for carefree western tourists.
Taken 2 opens October 5th, 2012.
