THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO – The David Fincher Adaptation

For those of you haven’t seen the Niels Arden Oplev original, either thrown by the prospect of reading subtitles or perhaps you weren’t sure whether the film was about a crazy tattoo artist, this new trailer shows that David Fincher‘s retelling of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the popular Stieg Larsson trilogy, promises to be an incredible adaptation and a very exciting thrill ride.

Starring Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander – taking over the role made famous by Swedish sensation Noomi Rapace,  she brings every bit of her own incredible talent to the role. Her character is something of a genius hacker and sociopath, somewhat into chicks – not that there’s anything wrong with that – and also the kind of girl who can look after herself when she needs to.

Daniel Craig who’s new film ‘Dream House‘ is currently do well, better than ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ it would seem, once again bring’s his usual charm to the part. However he’s not the take charge secret agent anymore, this time he’s the conflicted type playing journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who has a job to do but is unsure how he’ll react when he learns the shocking truth. Mara’s character is however more aware of the darkness that lies somewhere just beneath, and the trailer alludes to what will surely be a confronting movie, but also a memorable one.

Daniel Craig spoke to Esquire back in July and had this to say about the tone of David Fincher’s R Rated flick, which is from a script by Steven Zaillian and likely to take the story to another level –  just to keep audiences on their toes.

It’s as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we fucking all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he’s not holding back. They’ve given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, ‘Are you fucking serious?’

What scenes did the actor find so shocking?

[It’s] not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic. It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don’t see it… There’s more than one way to sense violence. Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step.

The flick also stars Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, and Joley Richardson.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21, 2011.
