THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY First Trailer

It’s time to make a trip back to Middle-Earth with the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey . Peter Jackson returns to world he made famous with his Lord Of The Rings trilogy to bring us the prequel story of The Hobbit.  It’s a film that’s been a long time in the making – from the financial problems of MGM which forced Guillermo del Toro to step aside, and issues with the unions that at one stage made producers consider switching locations.

With those events now in the past, the new trailer is both impressive and familiar – the world has been recreated to the finest detail and we can finally see how good Martin Freeman is as the younger Bilbo Baggins. We also get a glimpse of Elijah Wood and a hint at how the tale begins, as well the wizard Gandalf the Grey and his introduction of the dwarves that presumably brings about the beginning of their extraordinary journey. Andy Serkis also make a brief appearance in the famous encounter between Bilbo and Gollum.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit has been overhauled by Jackson and writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens to include elements and characters that did not feature, so this is sure to be an exciting story that doesn’t just set up the events seen in the Lord Of The Rings, but begins a brand new adventure for audiences to enjoy.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, and Stephen Fry.
