Here’s the second trailer for the exorcism themed flick The Rite with Anthony Hopkins doing his usual thing to make scenes all that more intense with his penetrating glances that haunt the soul. Inspired by true events, its a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach in one of the holiest places on Earth.
It follows the somewhat skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue making his feature film debut), whose asked to attend an exorcism school in the Vatican at the request of Father Matthew. Whilst there he meets the unorthodox priest Father Lucas, played by Oscar winner Hopkins who shows him the darker side to his faith. Toby Jones who appears in the upcoming Captain America flick, plays Father Matthew with Alice Braga as Angeline, a journalist in Rome doing research on exorcisms. Veteran actor Rutger Hauer is Michael’s father Istvan Kovak and Ciarán Hinds from HBO’s Rome plays Father Xavier.
The screenplay is from Michael Petroni, inspired by the book by Matt Baglio. Directed by Mikael Håfström, who made the cool horror flick 1408 with Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack, this one’s set to take audiences on quite a hellish ride when it terrorizes cinemas January 28, 2011.
