The Warriors Way is a new martial arts / western flick that’s seemed to have gone under the wire until last month with the first trailer released, now thanks to Collider we have some new scenes to share. The film is produced by Barrie Osborne who also worked on the Lord of the Rings films so expect this one to have great production values.
It’s was shot in Auckland between November 2007 and February 2008 and uses a lot of green screen set pieces and being so FX driven it’s joint effort between Weta Digital and FX houses in Korea, India and the U.S. The film is written and directed by Sngmoo Lee whose making his directorial debut having taught for five years at the New York Film School.
The film has a $45 million budget through Sad Flutes, a company set up by Osborne, Michael Peyser and Lee Joo-ick and stars South Korean sensation Jang Dong-gun, with Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth, Danny Huston and Tony Cox.
The story sees a fugitive Asian warrior hiding out in the American badlands, where he encounters the town drunk (Rush) and a beautiful, but troubled circus knife thrower (Bosworth).
Of the production Peyser has said:
We draw on two great milieux, the Samurai movie and the Western…We will deliver a stylized, partly anime feel, with the techniques of ‘300,’ …With 15 set-piece action sequences and use of every kind of weapon from swords and machine guns to dynamite…
The film is getting a bit of attention now that the long FX process is over – so check out some production stills as well as the movie clips and HD trailer.
