We finally have the first full length trailers for The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman as the easily angered adamantium infused X-Men hero. After the delays in production, which saw Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky step aside shortly after the catastrophic floods in Japan, his treatment was overhauled when director James Mangold took over, though much of what was promised seems to have been retained.
The script from Mark Bomback and Christopher McQuarrie sees the action takes place in Japan with Wolverine coming to terms with his mortality and the possible loss of his mutant healing abilities. This all comes at a bad time as he’s facing attacks from some sword wielding Japanese gangsters. Compared to Wolverine’s last solo outing, these trailers indicate the delays in production may have worked in the films favour and the story based on the 80s comic miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller could make for an indulgently enjoyable flick.
Here’s the synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.
