The first trailer has been released for Swedish film director Tomas Alfredson‘s (Let the Right One In), movie adaptation of John Le Carre‘s 1974 British spy novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. It was also a made as a seven-part TV series for the BBC in 1979 and starred Alec Guiness as George Smiley.
In the new flick Gary Oldman takes over the role of Smiley as the semi-retired spy who is alerted by Ricki Tarr (Tom Hardy) that there might be a mole in the MI-6 ranks. Academy Award winner Colin Firth is amongst the powerhouse cast that includes John Hurt, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Graham, and Benedict Cumberbatch. It thought that the flick might show up at the Venice Film Festival and/or the Toronto International Film Festival – it’s getting plenty of buzz especially for Gary Oldman who might just earn an Oscar nod.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy opens in the UK on September 16th, in Australia October 27th, and in the USA November 18th, 2011.
