A new theatrical trailer has been released for the Total Recall reboot from director Len Wiseman who’s helmed some successful flicks, though his list of films are considerably uneven. His take on the Die Hard franchise was a miscalculated attempt to bolster a sturdy formula with over the top action, and while the new imagery from his Total Recall remake looks impressive – many of the narrative beats seem surprisingly similar to the Paul Verhoeven original – minus the Mars setting.
Underworld star and Wiseman’s wife Kate Beckinsale plays the role of Lori which Sharon Stone once owned, and Jessica Biel does her bit as Melina – there’s plenty of nods to the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic – with some corny one-liners that seem to be a prerequisite for today’s action fare – but hopefully Colin Farrell’s screen presence can make things work.
Despite the flick having been written by Die Hard 4 scribe Mark Bomback, Kurt Wimmer who wrote Angelina Jolie‘s great spy drama Salt, also penned the story so hopefully this new Total Recall is a fun re-telling that’s not just a rehash of the original.
The film also stars Bill Nighy, John Cho,Ethan Hawke and Bryan Cranston.
Total Recall opens on August 3rd, 2012.
