The Coen Brothers’ updating of the classic western True Grit is set to hit cinemas next week. With it garnering top reviews, anticipation for the movie is growing so it should be something of a treat for fans of their work.
Jeff Bridges is in fine form bringing his usual flair and style to the role of Rooster Cogburn, made famous by screen legend John Wayne. We get to meet Tom Chaney, the bad guy they’re all after played by James Brolin who’s looking pretty menacing in the clip. Matt Damon plays the humorously over confident LaBoeuf whose nothing like his Bourne persona, fully immersing himself in the world of the old West. Newcomer Hailee Steinfeld plays Mattie Ross who hires Cogburn to go after the man who killed her father, and the young actress holds her own against these screen giants.
The filmmakers claim that this will be a more faithful adaptation of the novel by Charles Portis, which is told from the young girls perspective, though later reflected upon by her older self. With the Coen Brothers usual twists and turns as well as their abrupt story shifts, it will surely be a worthwhile movie going experience that may also redefine the western genre.
True Grit hits cinemas December 22nd.
