With only two leeks left till X-Men: First Class hits cinemas, a few more promos have popped up online which give us a better look at the characters and the story. While some mutant flicks can get a bit tedious, this one promises to be a reboot of the original themes with a more level headed approach to the balancing of character and effects. SuperBad director Matthew Vaughn was at the helm this time round and from the scenes offered, it looks like he’s done a terrific job with the design, the look and feel of the period and chosen some interesting young performers to bring the classic characters to life.
Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence plays Mystique and her scenes are the ones to watch, she lights up the screen and gives a hint at her character who one day goes off the rails and becomes the instrument of revenge of the older Magneto. Mystique is shown at a much younger age when she first meets Charles Xavier and her character would seem to age much slower than the other mutants. Nicholas Hoult also features in the clips revealing his special skills and developing something of a crush on her.

One shouldn’t see this as a direct prequel to X-Men as there’s a significant time gap with this one set in the midst of the Cuban Missile Crisis of the 60’s, which should allow for a few more movies to complete the story if the studio chooses.
The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Jason Flemyng, Zoë Kravitz, Lucas Till, Oliver Platt, Ray Wise, Edi Gathegi, Caleb Landry Jones and Álex González.
X-Men: First Class opens June 1st (U.K) the 2nd (Aus) and on the 3rd (U.S).
