Sucker Punch is the next upcoming Zack Snyder extreme action flick which has been getting a lot of attention with it’s eye popping visuals and some incredible young gals kicking butt in a major way. In a surreal world they create to fight their inevitable fates trapped within a mental institution, the 5 girls go on a quest to reclaim the strength they need to survive their ordeals.
The film was said to have received some mixed reviews from a preview audience unable to get a handle on the tone. Looking at this new trailer things looks insanely intense but also unlike any other story previously seen. It’s interesting to note that the outlawed frontal lobotomy of the 1950’s which these girls are facing was a heinous act performed in these institutions and by showing the illusions of their mind, we can identify with what these girls are fighting against.
Director Zack Snyder has made a name for himself with films which have a unique visual style but also feature incredibly rich storytelling. The theme of the movie is certainly dark and unsettling, though it looks visually and emotionally captivating.
