Alec Baldwin will be departing the hit show 30 Rock at the end of season 6 and will only appear occasionally in future episodes. However it’s not because he’s starring in a film or getting his own TV show, he’s pursuing a career in politics and is currently enrolled in a master’s program in politics and government.
While he won’t be runing for mayor anytime soon, his role as Jack Dongahy will have to take a backseat to his educational pursuits.
Back in 2009 the actor said the show would be ending at the end of season 6 and he would walk away from acting altogether, however executive producer Lorne Michaels has said the show will continue into a seventh season with or without Baldwin – though he’ll likley guest star in future episodes.
The actor has won countless awards playing Jack Donaghy, and it will be interesting to see if amidst the crazy antics, 30 Rock can make it without Baldwin anchoring the show in some kind of reality.
