Casting News for Alcatraz Pilot

Alcatraz is the new sci-fi thriller / drama from JJ AbramsBad Robot productions which was greenlighted in September from a script readied by Elizabeth Sarnoff. The concept follows the efforts of a cop and a team of FBI agents tracking down a group of Alcatraz prisoners and guards that disappear from their time and reappear in the present. With production on the pilot set to commence shooting soon, the creators are starting to lock in key talent to fill out the roles.

Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, Jonny Coyne and Jason Butler Harper

Lost alum Jorge Garcia was one of the first cast in the role of Dr. Diego Soto, the world’s foremost expert on Alcatraz, followed by Sarah Jones as Rebecca Madsen, a smart but obsessive police officer. Jonny Coyne and Jason Butler Harper were cast in the authoritative roles of Warden and Associate Warden.

Sam Neill, Parminder Nagra and Robert Forster

The big casting news is that film and TV star Sam Neill has landed a lead role in the new show. He will play Emerson Hauser, the head of a government agency who brandishes significant authority and intellectual insight. Neill appeared in ABC’s short-lived drama Happy Town and recently worked on the features The Vow and The Hunter.

Other casting news is Parminder Nagra from ER and Bend It Like Beckham, will play Hauser’s Lab technician, Lucy. Robert Forster who made a comeback with Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and the dastardly dad in NBC’s Heroes, will play Ray Archer a retired detective who’s now a bartender at a cop hangout bar.

The pilot for Fox has Sarnoff as series showrunner with Abrams and Bryan Burk as executive producers. Danny Cannon will direct the pilot which is set to begin filming in January in San Francisco and Vancouver.
