Hawaii get a new Five – 0

FIVE-0

Hawaii Five – 0 is returning to TV with an all new look and style with some recognizable faces taking over the iconic roles. Based on the phenomenal series which ran a remarkable 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980, it’s set in the same locale but promises a fresh take on the classic show.

Lost scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci consider this a reboot of the original concept rather than a sequel or follow up. In a similar fashion to their re-imagining of Star Trek, they have taken the characters and brought them up to date, putting a fresh spin on their lives and upping the ante considerably.

Alex O’laughlin stars as Steve McGarrett played by Jack Lord in the original. Here he’s a decorated navy Seal who comes back to the shores of Hawaii when James Marsters character kills his father in retribution,  setting a series of events in motion. Scott Cann plays Detective Danny “Danno” Williams and the two share an uneasy alliance when McGarret is put in charge of the outfit to bring down the region’s crime-lords.

Lost star Daniel Dae Kim plays Detective Chin Ho Kelly and Grace Park from Battlestar Galactica fame plays his cousin Detective Kona Kalakaua. Heroes star Masi Oka will also be joining the cast as a recurring character in episiode 4 playing the police coroner as the body count starts to rise.

For the show’s theme song a modern guitar-based intro was used but after a preview by critics, it became necessary as Alex Kurtzman conceded to revive the iconic theme – and some of the original musicians returned for the recording.

Check out the original theme song by composer Morton Stevens here.
