Kiefer Sutherland has signed on for the new series Touch hatched by Heroes creator Tim Kring. The Fox pilot will mark the actor’s return to TV after playing his signature bad-ass character Jack Bauer for eight seasons on ’24’. The TV-to-film adaptation of the series has been in limbo after Billy Ray‘s script was rejected by Fox earlier this year. Sutherland who’s currently performing in the Broadway revival of Jason Miller’s ‘That Championship Season’, appeared on Live! With Regis & Kelly just recently and maintained that there will be a ’24’ movie, except the start date won’t be this year as originally hoped.
People come up to me and say they love the show. There will [be a movie]. We will hopefully start next January, and Tony Scott is one of the directors who has expressed great interest in doing it.
As for ‘Touch’, the new show is the story of a father who realizes that his autistic son can predict future events. Sutherland will serve as an executive producer alongside Kring, Peter Chernin and Kathrine Pope. ‘Touch’ is expected go into production in late May-early June to allow Sutherland to complete his stint on the play. The Tim Kring written script is his first pilot since ‘Heroes’ went off the air and the episode is looking to be directed by Charles McDougall, who helmed the pilots for ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘The Good Wife’ and most recently, Fox’s ‘The Chicago Code’.
Sutherland can also be seen playing a hitman in the web series The Confession which will air on hulu starting March.
