Ricky Gervais has been taking a lot of flack since his roasting of the stars at the 2011 Golden Globes, it seems not everyone was on his wavelength. Recently he appeared on ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’ and talked about how he’ll be showing up on The Office as Steve Carell begins his departure.
The comedian once played David Brent, the boss of ‘The Office’ in the U.K version before it was Americanized. Now he reveals how that character will be bumping into Michael Scott as part of Carell’s send off.
Ricky Gervais who’s an executive producer of the show, said how ‘The Office’ may still work and that he didn’t try to prevent Carell from leaving who’s keen to spend more time with his family and work on film projects.
I sent him an email saying I think you’re doing the right thing.
As a producer, I was expected to try and stop him because he’s a big part of it… it can survive. Whether it should or not, I don’t know. I’m just an adviser and he’s done an amazing job.
Paul Lieberstein who plays the dreaded Toby is also the series show-runner and he revealed last week that Michael Scott will actually leave a month before the finale to help begin the transition sooner. ‘The Office’ will have to reinvent itself and with a managerial position available it’s fueled speculation as to who will be stepping into the shoes of the ‘World’s Best Boss’.
Nonetheless it will be interesting to see the original show and the U.S version make a crossover with these comic talents facing-off.
