Producers Consider Shutting Down After Star Injury and Behind the Scenes Shake-Up
Chris Vance is best known to TV audiences for his stint on season three of Prison Break – now he’s taking over the role made infamous by Jason Statham in Cinemax’s TV adaptation of The Transporter trilogy. Vance stars as Frank Martin, an ex-elite commando turned transporter, who delivers mysterious packages for shady and sometimes dangerous clients.
Production on the twelve part show has not been going smoothly, filming began in June and was suppose to wrap in November – however early last month, Vance was injured while filming an action scene – now producers are considering putting the production on hold until 2012.
Though production was shut down to allow the star time to heal, the actor has not mended as quickly as producers had hoped and still walks with a limp. A memo was recently sent out to talent and crew by production manager Anna Bebe, stating that cameras may not roll until later in the year. That said producers – Canada’s QVF Inc. and French partner Atlantique Productions – may be reluctant to restart for one episode, only to shut down again for Christmas.
In recent months the action series has undergone some major creative changes with British director Steve Shill (Rome, Dexter) replacing Canadian showrunners Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie (Stargate Universe). Shill also did a shake up of key crew in a bid to get the production back on track and on budget. The action series initially shot on location in Europe in June before shifting to Toronto in July.
Filming on the action show has been taking place on both sides of the Atlantic, and coupled with the pyrotechnics, car chases and fist fights, there’s bound to be some mishaps along the way. However executive producer Fred Fuchs (Camelot) says that it’s all part of a learning curve:
This is a hard show, and we’re bringing in new people, not because of a problem, but because this is the nature of filmmaking. It’s not an exact science.
