On NBC’s The Event, Taylor Cole played Vicki Roberts, the CIA hit girl with a heart of gold and a need for redemption, when the show was cancelled fans and geeks feared they’d seen the last of her – now it seems those assumptions were premature. Talk is starting to suggest that the show maybe back with the cable network Syfy considering picking up the show for a new series.
On May 13 when the decision was handed down to show’s creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark, they told fans that there was a chance the drama could continue elsewhere. Now it looks like Syfy could be the channel whose corporate sibling Universal Media Studio produced ‘The Event’. However some cost cutting could be required or a reduced episode order necessary to reach a better price tag than what the show cost to produce originally.
Word is the show may initially return as a mini-series which would be more affordable and if the ratings are good then a new season would be ordered. The production may also have to relocate as many of Syfy’s shows are made in Canada, (hopefully it stay puts as the sets would look shoddy). Either way we might just see a continuation of a series that drew mixed reactions from many, though true fans of Sci-Fi would appreciate the clever themes and underlying threads that the story explored.
The finale drew alot of discussion with a show-stopper ending that mirrored the resolve of Peter Hyams flawed but ambitious sequel to Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, ‘2010’. That said ‘The Event’ ended on a high note, perhaps too high to continue logistically – though the writing and visuals of the show were top notch and it would be a shame to lose what was a fascinating bite out of Sci-Fi.
If worlds do collide, expect a 2012 relaunch of The Event.
