hannibal cast

You’re cordially invited to watch the extended preview for NBC’s Hannibal, the newest TV incarnation chronicling the life of psychiatrist-turned serial killer,  Dr. Hannibal Lecter – made famous in Jonathan Demme‘s tour-de-force directorial effort, The Silence of the Lambs.

This modern setting sees some new faces taking over the pivotal roles introduced to us in the movies –  Laurence Fishburne plays Agent Jack Crawford,  (Scott Glenn in the original movie) and the FBI criminal profiler Will Graham ( portrayed by Edward Norton in Red Dragon)  is played by Hugh Dancy.  The iconic role of Hannibal Lecter, which won Sir Anthony Hopkins the best actor Oscar in 1991, is this time played in a decidedly different way by Casino Royale bad guy, Mads Mikkelsen.

The new series is an adaptation of the Thomas Harris novels which follows the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist and the young FBI criminal profiler, who has the uncanny ability of stepping into the shoes of the serial killers to better solve their crimes.

The show is from creator/executive producer Bryan Fuller, (Pushing Daisies) and is shaping up to be a highly anticipated TV event, that might just ride the wave of a successful – but graphically violent shows such as Fox’s The Following, and AMC’s The Walking Dead which are setting new benchmarks for acceptable levels of gore and violence on TV.

Hannibal premieres on NBC on April 4th at 10pm.
