Here’s the first look at Showtime’s new terrorist thriller series Homeland that debuts later this year. It’s already been given a full season pick-up which indicates the network has quite a bit of faith in this new series catching on. The show deals with the issue of an American soldier who may have been turned by the enemy after being held captive for many years.
Starring Claire Danes who recently scored big with her HBO biopic ‘Temple Grandin’, here she plays Carrie Anderson, a dedicated CIA Agent who quickly suspects foul-play when a former sniper is rescued during a raid on a middle east compound by an American strike team. Damian Lewis plays Brody, the soldier who is found in a spider hole reminiscent of Saddam Hussein’s capture, and he’s looking somewhat worse for wear, having possibly undergone a shift in his allegiance. Anderson turns to Saul Berenson, played by Mandy Patinkin who’s been out of TV for sometime after departing the ultra violent themed show, ‘Criminal Minds’. Her conversations with Berenson force her to find proof so that an undercover investigation can begin.
The show is from Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who both wrote and produced for ’24’, but don’t expect the adrenaline charged conspiracies and real time events. This is clearly a large and complex canvas that will start to unravel the mystery of the possible Al Qaeda double agent, as well as examining the real issues and dilemmas of conflict.
