Reality network MTV is breaking the mold with a re-imagining of the 80’s comedy flick, Teen Wolf that starred Michael J.Fox. From creator/executive producer Jeff Davis and director/co-executive producer Russell Mulcahy, the show takes a bite out of the usual stereotypical fare and after just a few episodes it’s quickly apparent that this is more than just a re-working but something totally new and fresh. What’s interesting is that the werewolves appearance is more classical in look, especially the alpha werewolf which is reminiscent of the John Landis comedy / horror, ‘An American Werewolf in London’. The show has considerable charm with a likable cast, and has something to offer for all fans of the genre.
Teen Wolf is also a coming of age story where everyday teenagers are trying to figure out who they are, dealing with the issues of forbidden love and social rivalry. Tyler Posey who has considerable charm as a performer stars as Scott McCall, the teenager bitten by the werewolf when he and his buddy Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) go out into the woods one night in search of a dead body. Scott soon becomes a stronger athlete putting him in the sights of the lacrosse team’s star Jackson Whittemore (Colton Haynes) and brings him to the attention of the bratty but popular girl Lydia Martin (Holland Roden).When Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) arrives in town, he learns a secret about her family which threatens to jeopardize their romance before it gets going, and he also meets Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), a twenty something guy who’s also a werewolf but tries to mentor Scott to help him protect his secret and more importantly, stay alive.
