Terra Nova – TV Promo

Here’s the first TV promo for the upcoming show Terra Nova that airs in May on Fox and other networks soon after. It’s a mega-bucks production that’s rumored to cost around $4 million an episode so it’s going to have to generate big numbers and a loyal following to keep it on the air. It’s a high-concept piece from executive prouder Steven Spielberg and  Brannon Braga of ‘Star Trek’s Next Gen’ as well as Jon Cassar from TV’s ’24’ amongst the many names attached. It’s shot in Queensland Australia to provide the tropical surroundings that suits the pre-historic time period.

While the lead actor Jason O’Mara has found little success headlining his own shows, perhaps this one will be a better fit. The other notable player is Stephen Lang from the mega-hit Avatar who’s probably not returning for the sequels, though James Cameron is planning on bringing back Sigourney Weaver so who knows.

Terra Nova is set in the year 2149 where the planet is overdeveloped and over-polluted with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. Science is striving to find some salvation and without a way to reverse the damage, they open up a fracture in the space-time continuum, creating a portal to prehistoric Earth.

While it’s way out there conceptually, it blends aspects of the popular ‘Jurassic Park’ flicks and the planetary issues of ‘Avatar’, so if it’s done well this show could provide an entertaining hour of TV.

For now check out the trailer and see what you think.
