Zach Galifianakis on the promotional trail for his new film Due Date, appeared Oct. 29 on HBO‘s talk show Real Time with Bill Maher. Sporting a trendy new hairpiece, the actor decided to dispel the perceived taboo’s associate with smoking pot, by lighting up a joint on the show. Obviously something of a publicity stunt, the host appears to be oblivious though as an advocate of the drug it’s likely the whole thing was cooked up.
The other guests who were there to debate California’s Proposition 19 ballot which seeks to legalize marijuana for personal use, look at the comedian in dismay who seemingly had little regard for the lasting impressions his actions might have. Whilst we don’t dispute Zach’s obvious comedic talents we wonder why he couldn’t have been a little more understanding of Mel Gibson’s alcohol addiction related problems with his cameo vetoed in the Hangover 2…like chill out dude…
However it seems that both the star & host are now in ‘doobie’ damage control claiming that the joint was fake. During an interview with Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room, Bill Maher said that Zach didn’t really smoke marijuana on his show.
If it was a real joint, Wolf, I would have smoked it… I think it was cloves or something…Zach’s crazy, he’s not that crazy.
The panelist Margaret Hoover whom Zach passed the joint to, was on the O’Reily Factor earlier this week and commented:
If you’ve been to a rock concert you know that pot sort of makes these big billowy white clouds and it didn’t do that so I wasn’t sure if it was real or not … I asked Zach afterwards he said it was ‘THC-free’ marijuana
It’s interesting to note that the studio where Real Time is taped at CBS in L.A, medical marijuana is legal for people with prescriptions, so perhaps there’s a fine line between truth and fiction.
When Zach appeared this week on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, he claimed it was all ‘smoke and mirrors’, as well making another interesting reveal.
